Is Social Media doing more harm than good???

Social Media as Social networking
Social networking takes up numerous chunks of time in our day-to-day lives. Websites such as Twitter and Facebook have over millions of users logging in to share information everyday.

But what really are the implications of these forms of social media? Many argue that they are a positive influence; encouraging creativity, building relationships, sharing information and reducing ignorance. All these, well and good surely are examples of things in the world that social media is tackling but at the same time it is as well creating problems to it's users.

(we spend huge chunks of time behind the computer)

I can personally tell you that though I do find social media useful it has harmed me in away. I find that i waste a lot of time on social networking sites whether i have something useful to share or not. I've noticed that spend most of my time behind my computer screen than i do walking in a day, this means that i do less exercise than i used to which i might add is not very healthy.

According to a neuroscientist Susan Greenfield, the long hours we spend on these websites eventually leads to short attention spans off or away from a computer screen.

Though we may be drawn to the advantages brought by these kinds of Websites we should also make ourselves aware of the potential harm they may bring to us.

  1. Yes! I agree with you that the social media has harmed me in away also. From my experiences, social media has control our daily routine just by surfing the internet and sitting for hours in front of the monitor. We don’t even notice that the time we spent wasted just like that. Too much time spend on social networking will lose valuable time that can be devoted in doing something creative and useful. therefore We have to manage our time correctly and appropriately. Do not miss use the main idea for the networking.

  2. I agree with that health thing. After class, I'll open my laptop for the whole day. Lately, I seldom jog or go to the gym. My stamina is at critical level. I prefer sitting in front of my laptop and enjoying the social media rather than spending time with my friends. Children nowadays will extremely get the chances to face with obesity problem compared to the pastime kids. So I assume that if we use the social media in wrong ways, we may get the consequences. Better use it smartly and wisely.

  3. I STRONGLY agree too! The social networking has harmed me in some way too. Misunderstanding and stuff among friends and family. Nowadays, kids and teenagers can sit in front of a computer whole day. They can even skip meals just to play games. If we are free, we can use the time wisely and go do some exercise or something but now the society is different. We can live without internet and wifi. Facebook and Twittter or Tumblr is a must for most of us now and the more we play the easier we got addicted to it. When we got addicted to social networking, the lesser we'll do exercise and spend time with our love ones. Its bad. and i agree with what Yasmin says too. We have to use social network smartly and dont get addicted to it =]

  4. Yes. I agree that social media does harm us as certain part. But, as I know, there are certain social media which doesn't harm us. It encourage us to me more social with people through face to face rather than through website like the one example we see on the video (Ice-cream). As usual, in this world, there are always pros and cons which we cant avoid it in our daily lives. It's just the matter of how we manage the time and how we handle the social media in our daily live.
