Media are used for communication and networking purpose. It provides information and messages for the community to expose themselves to the current world. In this era, media can be known also as "Social Media". It changes the new way of interaction and communication to the community. This is a tool for people to increase and improve their sociability by new devices and 2.0 technologies such as websites (Web 2.0). Social media doesn't mean to be beneficial for society only because it depends on what are being spread through the media. Besides that, social media doesn't mean to for social purpose. It can also be for business purpose too.
One of the social media I know which is beneficial for the society is newspapers. Newspaper was introduced to our world at early 7th century ago. At different countries, they uses of newspapers were different. Newspapers were used for government's bulletins, political and economic news. When the mass of newspapers produced were increasing, the media had become one of the devices to spread the news of world's current issues, sports and advertising daily. The newspapers are being separated into three categories:
Social media grows rapidly because of the technologies being introduced to the world everyday. Social media is now a worldwide phenomenon which takes over the current world of marketing rapidly. The newspapers have developed into a better media which is known as television. The new device able to send information about world's current issues to the society with better visual such as videos. Newspapers only able to write about the current issues which includes pictures but the television able to show to the world of what is happening through the videos. The society able to understand better with good visual, sounds and voices from the news readers compare with the newspapers. Because of the invention of television, the ratio of people reading newspapers has decrease because they prefer television compare with newspapers.
While the technologies being developed, today, the society were exposed with much better social media which is called as websites (Web 2.0). It's capable to storage large amount of information into the screen. The speed of the website is better than the other devices. It connect the society throughout the whole countries. It enables the society to gain news and knowledge about the world faster than any other device being created. With the news being shown through websites, users able to update every single detail about current issues, economy, political and sports in "Live" especially which is more better than television and newspapers. If television, the users have to wait at specific time to get the news about the world being shown. If the newspapers, the users will get late information. Usually, yesterday's event or issues which happened in the world will be known by the users at today's newspapers. The producers or production can't able to update today's news in today's newspapers. This makes the users to receive late information and news about the global.
So, newspapers had developed rapidly throughout the century. The e-newspapers which were introduced through website is one of the great social media which have influences the daily life of the societies. Not only news can be gained by e-newspapers, but also form other social media websites like Bloggers, networking site like Facebook, and videos like YouTube can also be used. This social media have given a big positive impact towards the society including me. Based on my estimation, if 85% of the people who read news, 80% of them are using websites (e-newspaper, bloggers, Facebook, YouTube) compare with news in television or newspapers. The remaining 5% usually doesn't use the website because they are from old centuries which they were not exposed yet to the current 2.0 technologies. Even myself who always uses newspapers to gain my knowledge are now using the website nowadays to read the news because of the creation of 2.0 technologies like websites. If I want to know anything about studies, politic, culture, sport, global issues or even my education, I just need to go through the websites because that is the fastest way same goes to others. This phenomenon have affected all of us widely which we is already a routine for us in our daily lives. Without websites, we are..........LOST!
I don't remember the last time I read a newspaper (besides the gossip column ;D). I, too, use online newspaper (TM Insider) because it's easier and faster and honestly, more reliable than the printed newspaper. And I do strongly agrees that without websites I'll be lost since I hardly watch TV anymore so websites are the only source of information that I'll get.
